Glaucoma is often called the “silent thief of sight” because it causes gradual, irreversible damage to the optic nerve without noticeable symptoms in its early stages. It is one of the leading causes of preventable blindness worldwide. At Centre for Vision and Eye Surgery Hospital, we offer comprehensive glaucoma care, combining advanced diagnostic tools, expert clinical evaluation, and customized treatment plans to preserve vision.
Glaucoma typically occurs when fluid pressure inside the eye (intraocular pressure) builds up, damaging the optic nerve. However, it can also occur in patients with normal eye pressure due to poor blood supply to the nerve. Risk factors include age over 40, family history of glaucoma, diabetes, hypertension, and high myopia. Because glaucoma usually progresses silently, regular eye check-ups are the best way to detect it early.
Our glaucoma services begin with a detailed eye examination that includes intraocular pressure measurement (tonometry), optic nerve head evaluation, gonioscopy (to assess drainage angles), pachymetry (corneal thickness measurement), and computerized visual field testing. We also use Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) to analyze the optic nerve and retinal nerve fiber layer for early damage.
At Centre for Vision, we are committed to providing accessible and patient-friendly service hours.
